Alexey Kovalyov passed away

It is with deep regret that we must announce the passing of Alexey Kovalyov, a founding member of the Scalr team.

He had struggled with an illness over the past months, and alas succumbed last Friday. He will be buried today in Sevastopol, Ukraine.

He had just turned 29.

Alexey was a dear friend to many of us. To the others, he was an esteemed colleague. He was curious, obliging, and respected for his intellect and competence. He will be sorely missed.

If you have worked with him in the past, met with him online or offline, please leave us a note here. We will pass them on to his family.

  1. Alex was an extremely competent engineer. I knew him as the author of Scalr and was impressed with his intellect. Someone said “The mark of brilliance is exemplified by the simplicity of solution to tough problems.” Alex’s simple solution for one of most perplexing problems of application scaling marks his brilliance. Alex was very down to earth and ready to help. I mourn the loss of a brilliant engineer and a great human being.

  2. Thank you Ram.

We have decided to dedicate the Scalr source code to him in his honor.

  3. It was an absolute pleasure working with Alex. He will be missed dearly.

  4. It was a pleasure to work with him in the scalr group. My thoughts go to his family.
