Thanks, your praise boosts us!

You can suggest the enhancement to farm cloning at scalr.uservoice.com. We're currently (actually, Nick is) investigating how to do this automatically since it's a pain to do it manually (http://alestic.com/2010/10/ec2-ami-copy).

You guyz are on fire! This is awesome for testing on production-like environment.

quick question. You say:

"Although you can’t do this from Amazon to Rackspace (because the images are incompatible), it might still be useful to do this between regions of a cloud."

How can this accomplished with regards to custom roles? One would need to first copy the AMIs to another region and give them the same name? Would be great if scalr would provide the tooling for the above, or at least some short instructions on how this can be done manually.

keep it up!

Our plans come with support, so you never get stuck on an issue. In our experience we've found this critical to successful deployments. You can think of the Seed plan as 60% support, and 40% subscription to Scalr service.

I'm fine with paying something for Scalr- it's worth it. I just think the minimum plan of $99 a month is too high. Have a plan that is identical to your current free plan and charge something more reasonable for it.

Haha, sorry about that. We're not big fans of email newsletters, but coming January we'll have someone on it. Announcements are made via the blog and twitter.

Shoot me an email at sebastian@scalr.com if you'd like to discuss further, we're trying to be very open about the reasons for the change.

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately it turns out that supporting free users is costlier than expected, and wasn't offset by the conversion rate to paid plans. We'd rather spend the time on making Scalr better than on support. I hope you understand.

I signed up for Scalr (and love the service) because you said you were committed to supporting start-ups who are in the same position as you once were. The fact you're getting rid of the free plan and then also imposing the minimum tier of $99/month seems way to steep. Surely you could bring in a plan that is a little more accommodating to very small businesses?

Like I said, I really enjoy your service and don't want to have to leave or go through the headache of trying to run my own Scalr instance, but hope you guys will consider this feedback and try to find some way to help out.
